This blog started life being hosted on the Word Press servers for ease. I’m now getting to a stage that I want to do move stuff and their restrictions are stopping me.

So last night I found a host namely www.tsohost.co.uk , which is only £14.99 for the year! £1.25 a month

I’ve been updating the blog his morning and it seems really fast as well. So I’m really happy with the cost, performance and the refreshed look to the site as well.

Now I just need to go and create all of the content

I’m not impressed with the iPad. I think I’m going to wait for the HP Slate to be released and then compare. At the moment thou, I think I would prefer the HP.

Windows Updates

This server has been updating now for about an hour and still going and the updates have failed. Is this acceptable for a server?

Blackberry Simulator

This is for developers really however having access to a blackberry device on the desktop can be useful if you are supporting a blackberry device and don’t have one.

We are looking at a Blackberry device running simulated/emulated/virtualised the window on the left hand side is the MDS, this allows the device to connect to the internet, unfortunately it doesn’t allow connection to BIS (Blackberry Internet Service) as you have no IMEI number or network, so troubleshooting that is out, which is why I started looking into it. Unless somebody else knows otherwise.

To get this working is fairly simple, you need to go here and download BlackBerry Email and MDS Service Simulator Package.

Once downloaded and installed you will then need to download a simulator which can be downloaded from here.

MDS will only run in a DOS window that has been elevated when running under Windows 7/Vista with UAC enabled.

Why Windows Activation Needs to go

Virtualization is the reason why. I booted a image created inside Windows Virtual PC using Sun’s Virtual Box and this is what you get when you boot up.

Will Microsoft allow multiply activations of an OS? It’s just silly and doesn’t help with the promise of disaster recovery with the activation non-sense.

Exchange ActiveSync Error

A customers Windows Mobile Phone stopped syncing e-mails, etc, looking at the server we could see this error within the logs.

Event Type:      Error
Event Source:    Server ActiveSync
Event Category: None
Event ID:           3005

Description:
Unexpected Exchange mailbox Server error: Server: [servername.domain.local] User: [user’s e-mail address] HTTP status code: [400]. Verify that the Exchange mailbox Server is working correctly.

After following the instructions linked to within in the error (that was after getting off the floor because the link actually worked), the problem still wasn’t resolved.

After a little Googling and not getting very far. I noticed on another server that worked you could get to http://server/exchange/owa both internally and externally but only externally on the server that wasn’t working and the error code I received was a HTTP:400, which is the same code mentioned in the description.

This is a SBS 2003 box, so I ran the firewall wizard and after that I could get to http://server/exchange/owa internally as well as internally and the Windows Mobile Phone started syncing again. Problem resolved.

Have you every seen an screen shot from an iPhone and thought how is that done?

It’s really easy, press the home button and the power button at the same time and a screen shoot is taken and the image is added to the camera roll.

Windows 7 Resizing of Partitions

You can now dynamically resize windows partitions in windows 7. Expand and Shrink, I was amazed that creating and removing a partition didn’t require a system reboot! Fantastic stuff, all this is in Windows Server 2008 to.

Microsoft Security Essentials

Just downloaded the latest beta to Microsoft Security Essentials….. Not much has changed. I’ll post my thoughts once I’ve had enough time to poke about.

UltraMon

I’ve notice this morning that UltraMon has been updated to fit in with Windows 7. On the second toolbar, who don’t get previews of your windows thou.

For those who may not be aware, UltraMon is a utility which expands the tool bar across multiple monitors.
