Ran into an issue with 64 bit windows and Sage Line 50. We use excel to suck data from sage for our stock, accounts, etc… All of the spreadsheets that we have rely on the ODBC connector but it wouldn’t work, even when we tried to configure it via the 32 ODBC control panel applet. I had another look at it today and a little Google later I found this link.

Here’s what I got from it. Browse to the C:\Windows\systwow64 folder and run odbcad32.exe, you should now be able to configure the path to your sage data ase before. This basically fixed the issue, seems to me that Microsoft have some more work do to.

I belive that this is only an issue with Windows 7 64 bit. I have installed Windows 7 (64 bit) clean and then installed Sage on top of the clean Windows 7, then Excel 2010 (it was Excel 2007 when I first had the issue) and it worked frist time so if you having issues, a bit drastic but maybe a format reinstall will work. If you go down the reinstall route ensure that you have a fully tested backup.

UPDATE (16/07/2010):

Put the insturctions for the fix on this post, to save a click.

Would you like a video demo? If so then please leave a comment telling me so, if I receive enough then I, i’ll do it.

I plugged my Laptop into my TV (42” Sharp 1080i) and I received this: -

As you can see the taskbar and the left edge aren’t visible, after playing around with screen resolution and not getting anywhere I decided to take a look at my remote. I found an option which allowed me to put the TV into under scan which resolved this issue.

Problem fixed, I searched for this and didn’t come across that much that helped….. so I hope this does.

A month or so ago I started to copy a 40mb file to my WHS (HP MediaSmart). The resulting copy dialog reported that it was going to take 30+ mins to copy.

At first I thought it was a Windows Vista Issue. So boot up my XP laptop and copied a file still slow.

From the PC to Laptop fast. From Laptop to PC fast no more than 30 secs.

Took it all into the office and it all worked, very confused. Any how I actual changed the case and motherboard because the old case was just too big.

This weekend I’ve run into the same issue. I noticed on the Windows Home Server that Network Load Balancing was not checked on the network adapter. Which I checked and fast copying started working again.

Was this wasn’t checked is a bit of a mystery (at some point I’ll checked the default setting of this on a fresh install of WHS).

Since then it happened again, although this time Network Load Balancing stayed checked.

I disabled and enabled and I had fast copying back!

I think the cause of this is my router! D-Link DSL 2740B. Every since I’ve had it every now again (before I purchased my home server) Vista (on my desktop) would drop the globe over the network icon (in the tray) and fall to Local Access only.

The only resolution to this was to reset the router which fix the internet issue. However the down side to this it seems to be causing the slow copying issue with WHS.

I’m going to try an new router and see how things go for a month. I’ll post my findings.

This has happened to me on a number of SBS boxes whit low hard drive space, generally on drive C:

SBS resets the cal count to 5!

We have just had a customer call and this has happened to. Normally we backup the CALS using the built in backup utility within SBS Console.

Found this MS KB 888818, which isn’t really much help.

Then found post on Knight-Time Ramblings which worked!
