September 21, 2009

Just downloaded the latest beta to Microsoft Security Essentials…..  Not much has changed.  I’ll post my thoughts once I’ve had enough time to poke about.

UltraMon

September 16, 2009

I’ve notice this morning that UltraMon has been updated to fit in with Windows 7.  On the second toolbar, who don’t get previews of your windows thou. :-(

For those who may not be aware, UltraMon is a utility which expands the tool bar across multiple monitors.

iPhone Improvements

September 8, 2009

I really like my iPhone, there are a few things that need to be there, my list has reduced some what since version 3.0.

My iPhone has 3 email accounts, 2 Gmail and 1 Exchange.  I would like the number of messages to have different colours so you knew visually how many emails in each account.  Also if there is email in more than one account the when select email I want it to go to the email account list rather than the last used. Also if there is only 1 email in any of the 3 accounts then just go to the account inbox with the 1 email.

My Exchange/Outlook account has lots of folders and their is no way to collapse the folders and it takes lots of swipes to get to the sent items folder.

And of course multitasking…… :-)

HDMI Screen Resolution

September 7, 2009

I plugged my Laptop into my TV (42” Sharp 1080i) and I received this: -

Iphone 013

As you can see the taskbar and the left edge aren’t visible, after playing around with screen resolution and not getting anywhere I decided to take a look at my remote.  I found an option which allowed me to put the TV into under scan which resolved this issue.Iphone 014  Iphone 015

Problem fixed, I searched for this and didn’t come across that much that helped….. so I hope this does. :-)

Virtual Box

September 2, 2009

So I came across Sun’s Virtual Box software some time ago and tried booting a 64bit OS on it which at the time seemed a little buggy.

I decided that  I would give it another go and it seems to just work….. and running on Windows 7 as well. :-)

See for yourself…..

So if Sun can do this and give it a way for free, why can’t Microsoft enable Windows Virtual PC to have 64bit support?

Windows Home Server Add-in

September 1, 2009

Here in the UK we had a bank holiday yesterday which of course meant we had 3 days off.  So I spent some time with the wife over the last few days and decided that I would embark on new project.

Last week I was looking at the plug-ins for Windows Home Server.  I came across one which sync your pictures to flickr.  Unfortunately it didn’t work that well, it only uploaded the images within the root of the folder you gave to it.

I looked the forums and there seem to be a lot of people requiring this plug in, but the one available was buggy and the developer hadn’t blogged since last year.

So I decided that I would throw something to gather.  After around 8 hours approx.  I have my application talking to flickr, uploading.

The next big milestone will figuring out how to write an Windows Home Server Addin.  So while 60-70% of the application is pretty much done and working, it won’t work with WHS as intended, so time permitting I’m hoping to a full BETA version ready to go in about two weeks.

:-)
